Ca' d'Oro
One of the main important sights of Cannaregio area is the Museum of “Cà d’Oro”, built in the early 1400s. This beautiful Gothic palace along the Grand Canal of Venice was originally covered in gold leafs, vermilion and ultramarine decorations. The palace reveals Moorish influence in its roof and sinuous pointed arches. Restored in the early 20th century as part of the Ca' d'Oro complex the buildings contain the Baron Franchetti valuable private collection of paintings, sculpture, and furniture. In 1927 a museum was opened containing many works by Titian and Tintoretto and Gothic and Renaissance furniture. The two rows open galleries give it a special lightness, in particular at night when the facade is illuminated and is reflected in the water below.

Another important attraction of the area, is certainly the Casinò of Venice, hosted in the Palace of Ca' Vendramin Calergi, located on the Grand Canal, which the first great palace of the venetian Renaissance.
The palace was built in 1481 and it takes on one of the owners' names, Vittorio Calergi, and from its successors, the Vendramin family. In 1959 Ca' Vendramin Calergi become the venue of the most prestigious Municipal Casino' of Venice which is surely among the most beautiful gaming houses of the world. The charm of the splendid halls decorated magnificently adds to the magic of the green tables and creates a background, unique to the exciting nights that the gaming house knows how to offer its guests.

In the area you will find the little Church of San Marziale: this baroque church was completely rebuilt between 1693 and 1721on its original medieval structure. The Rococò frescoes by Sebastiano Ricci are the principal touristic recall. The central painting on the ceiling shows the ‘Glory of Saint Martial’.
Not far from the Church of S. Marziale, discover the Church of Madonna dell’Orto, originally built in the 14th century, this church was first dedicated to St. Christopher, who is depicted in sculpture above the entrance door but it changed its name when a miracle-working statue of the Virgin found in a nearby garden (orto in Italian) was brought inside. This was Tintoretto's parish church, and it contains several of his beautiful frescoes, as well as his tomb. Inside the chapel of San Mauro, is a statue of the

Virgin which inspired the reconstruction of the church. Close to the Church of Madonna dell’Orto, you will enter in Campo dei Mori: the "Mori" were three brothers (the Mastelli brothers) that came from the Peloponnese, who settled in Venice in the early 12th century, building the Palazzo Mastelli. Heavily-weathered stone figures of the three brothers stand on the eastern side of the square. The front statue is Signor Antonio Rioba – focus of malicious fun and satire as Pasquino in Rome. His nose was replaced with a makeshift rusty metal one in the 19th century.
Another sight of the area, are the Fondamenta Nuove, the major 16C town-planning scheme that established the northern limits of the city. In addition to the splendid view towards the islands of San Michele and Murano, here it is possible to admire the elegance of a most austere palace that the doge Leonardo Donà built here at the beginning of the 17C as a reaction against the ostentation of the period.

In southern area of Cannaregio, little hidden between two palaces rises the Church of S. Maria dei Miracoli, a small but very precious building. According to tradition, the church was built from 1481 and 1489 by P. Lombardo, to protect the sacred image "Virgin between two Saints" which is now on the altar. The facade is entirely covered with fine marbles, which, according to the tradition, were left from the work of the Basilica of St. Mark. The interior, with its tones of light pink, silver, grey and white is haloed in a soft light. Curious bas relives, which features mermaids, Triton, small animals, flowers and other figures, run along the length of the pilasters and also around the base of the church.
