View from Venice Lido

Venice Lido beach
The Lido is the most famous of the Venice’s islands, located 15 minutes of Vaporetto away from St.Mark's Square. The Lido is like a resort area complete with one of the world's most attractive and exclusive beaches and deluxe hotels.
On the Lungomare G. d'Annunzio there is the Public Bathing Beach.
In front of the beach, there is an original construction dedicated to Golf and nearby is located the Golf Club Lido with 18 holes.
The main Church of the Lido is San Niccolò. From the 11th century, Venetians offered special prayers to San Nicolò, the patron saint of mariners, on Ascension Day. By the 16th and 17th centuries, this was a glorious day-long ceremony which began with a simple mass at the Basilica San Marco, moved through a water procession for the wedding of Venice to the Sea, and culminated with a Solemn Mass at the monastery church of San Nicolò at Lido. The large altarpiece of Madonna

with Child and Saints was painted by Tiziano Vecellio between 1533 and 1535 for the church of S. Niccolò.
Located on the Lido is one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in Europe. Established in 1386, it still has the oldest surviving gravestone, that of Shemuel ben Shimshon who died in 1389. The Venice Jewish Cemetery was abandoned for 200 years and almost completely inaccessible for decades. This once-crumbling cemetery has been restored and is now open to visitors for the first time.
Arriving with the Vaporetto you will certainly recognise the Lido Monumento ai Caduti (War Memorial), with its characteristic green dome.
If you visit the Lido you can’t also miss the Palazzo del Cinema that hosts, each late

summer, the International Venice Film Festival. During the manifestation, organised in the frame of the Venice Biennale, films are shown day and night in the Palazzo del Cinema or either in the Sala della Perla. The first International Film Festival took place in 1932, and since then it attracted every year many famous international movie directors and actors such as Al Pacino, Takeshi Kitano, Robert De Niro and many more.
